ABOUT THERAPY

More than Talk
A way to Reconnect

Somatic EMDR is a gentle, body-centered approach to healing from difficult experiences. It combines the proven effectiveness of EMDR therapy with attention to what your body is telling you. Through guided protocols and bilateral methods, and tuning into physical sensations, we help your mind and body process stored stress and trauma together, creating new adaptive learning. to move forward in life.

More about the Therapy Methods

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization  Reprocessing)

EMDR therapy is an evidence-based treatment for post-traumatic stress. It can also be effective in working with many other concerns (grief, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, transitions, and so forth). What to expect that's different than talk therapy is use of guided protocols often combined with bilateral methods (activity that alternates the left and right sides of the body) simultaneously helping mind and body process together—creating new adaptive learning.

Somatic Therapy

Learn how to listen to what your body is telling you.

Somatic therapy means "soma" for the body. Our bodies hold information and intelligence we often don't know how to access. Somatic therapy focuses on the subtle sensations, movements, and signals within your body to help unlock healing, release tension, and reconnect you with your inner wisdom.

Polyvagal Informed

Restoring felt sense of safety from survival strategies

Polyvagal-informed therapy works with your nervous system's natural responses to stress and safety. The vagus nerve is like a communication highway between your brain and body, constantly assessing whether you're safe or in danger. When we've experienced trauma or chronic stress, our nervous system can get stuck in survival mode. This approach helps you understand your body's automatic responses and gently guides your nervous system back to a state where connection, calm, and healing are possible.

Animal Assisted Therapy

Non-Judgmental Healing Presence

Animal Assisted Therapy brings the healing presence of specially trained animals into the therapeutic space. Animals offer non-judgmental companionship, calming energy, and a unique bridge to emotional connection. Their presence can help reduce anxiety, encourage authentic expression, and create a sense of safety that makes it easier to explore difficult feelings. Whether it's the gentle rhythm of petting a therapy dog or simply sharing space with a calm companion, animals help us access parts of ourselves that words alone sometimes can't reach..

Talu's Journey: From Rescue to Healing Companion

Finding Each Other

This was Talu at the shelter—you can see the sadness and broken-heartedness in his eyes. After four years with a family, he found himself in rescue. Like many of us who've experienced loss and rupture, he carried that grief in his body.

Building Trust

The meet-and-greet with our dog Casper mirrors what happens in therapy: Are we a match? Can we trust each other? Here they are, nose to nose, calmly taking time to get to know one another. Rapport can't be rushed.

Learning New Skills

Talu earned his AKC Good Citizen certificate—a milestone in his journey. He learned skills like sitting calmly with strangers, walking on a loose leash, and staying composed in new environments. Just as in therapy, these small steps build confidence and regulation.

Present and Listening (Therapy Dog In-Training)

Talu joins me in the office, typically on Wednesdays. He's seven months into his journey with us and is an AKC Therapy Dog in Training. He's 100% Shih Tzu, about 9 pounds, and hypoallergenic. Talu doesn't do much—he simply is. Here he rests on the therapy couch, head cocked to one side, listening. Typically he is on the floor through session wrapped in his little 'house.' His calm presence supports nervous system regulation in a way words cannot. A few hours is a lot for a little dog, so we honor his capacity and his rhythm, just as we honor yours.
