INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

I work with issues of anxiety, stress,  depression, complex grief, trauma and complex trauma. In addition to providing a compassion, non-judgmental space to talk, I also use integrative mind body methods to enhance the process of restoring a sense of safety and connection.  I draw heavily from Polyvagal Theory (the neuroscience of safety and well being), mindfulness and the science of yoga.  These methods help us develop awareness and dialogue with the body to enable moving through strategies or emotional patterns that are no longer working for us. I work with clients ages 18 and older.

EMDR & Flash Technique

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is a therapy of past, present and future. What that means is that past events do not have to continue to control the experience of the present or the future.  It can also lessen the impact of isolated  traumatic events which can be a brief approach to treatment.  EMDR was named based on it's use of eye movements similar to how natural processes occur during REM sleep.  It has evolved into a structured approach that uses movements or alternate tapping (called bi-lateral stimulation).  It has been extensively researched with demonstrated effectiveness in the treatment of trauma and many other stress related disorders.

FLASH Technique is an adjunct therapy that evolved from EMDR.  It can be used with EMDR and therapies to aid in often very quick resolution with severely traumatic disturbances.  Similar to EMDR, Flash Technique also uses alternate tapping and eye movements. It has also been shown to be very effective with healthcare professionals and others with ongoing disturbances or vicarious trauma.
