ABOUT ME

I am a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of trauma and stress related disorders.   I work with issues of anxiety, depression, grief, navigating life transitions, and healing the impacts of trauma. I am integrative with a mind body emphasis and approach to therapy.  I believe healing happens in the context of safety, choice, compassion and connection.

I am a Certified EMDR therapist and a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) .  I am additionally trained in Flash Technique, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory (PVT) and Mindfulness. I graduated from CSU Fresno with my B.A. in Communicative Disorders and M.S. in Counseling with a Marriage and Family Therapy emphasis. In the 20 years of my professional career, I have worked in community and clinic based outpatient behavioral health, behavioral health administration, adjunct academia, on-site employee assistance programs, palliative and hospice care.  I am currently in private practice.

I currently offer Teletherapy serving all of California and am locally centered in the the Central San Joaquin Valley (e.g. Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Madera, and Merced Counties)

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

I work with issues of anxiety, depression, grief, relational issues, navigating life transitions, and healing the impacts of trauma.  In addition to providing a compassion, non-judgmental space to talk, I also use integrative mind body methods to enhance the process of restoring a sense of safety and connection.  I draw heavily from Polyvagal Theory (the neuroscience of safety and well being), mindfulness and the science of yoga.  These methods help us develop awareness and dialogue with the body to enable moving through strategies or emotional patterns that are no longer working for us. I work with clients ages 18 and older.

EMDR & Flash Technique

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is a therapy of past, present and future. What that means is that past events do not have to continue to control the experience of the present or the future.  It can also lessen the impact of isolated  traumatic events which can be a brief approach to treatment.  EMDR was named based on it's use of eye movements similar to how natural processes occur during REM sleep.  It has evolved into a structured approach that uses movements or alternate tapping (called bi-lateral stimulation).  It has been extensively researched with demonstrated effectiveness in the treatment of trauma and many other stress related disorders.

FLASH Technique is an adjunct therapy that evolved from EMDR.  It can be used with EMDR and therapies to aid in often very quick resolution with severely traumatic disturbances.  Similar to EMDR, Flash Technique also uses alternate tapping and eye movements. It has also been shown to be very effective with healthcare professionals and others with ongoing disturbances or vicarious trauma.
